Embracing Equity in the Workplace

Today Modica Group, like many other organisations and people around the world, are celebrating International Women's Day. As a tech company we hold an extra responsibility to welcome women into a male dominated industry and we strive to create an environment that supports women in their endeavours.

We asked our staff what International Women's Day means to them and how we as an organisation can #EmbraceEquity.

"International Women's Day is a great chance to reflect how far we have come and to celebrate the women who have made it possible for us to do the things that we now take for granted. I believe Modica Group is already embracing equity, we have a fantastic culture here." - Ashleigh

"International Women's Day is day of recognition for women for the years of inequality and moving forward with equality in all areas. We can embrace equity by providing equal opportunities for women and calling people out when they are not treating others fairly." - Chris

"It means there isn't equality yet if we still need a 'special' day once a year to celebrate us. Companies around the world can embrace equity by encouraging hiring policies that support equity, pay transparency, thoughtful maternity leave policies, an understanding of working parents, having flexible working policies, women in senior leadership positions and providing explicit pathways within their own company to recognise and provide opportunities/mentoring for their own emerging female leaders." - Nicola

"International Women's Day recognises the struggle of women from previous generations to get rights for all women for our generations. Embracing equity means giving the same opportunities inside the company based on our preparation and experience." - Anani

Embracing equity means ensuring that everyone has access to the same opportunities, regardless of gender, race, religion, or any other factor. It means recognising and addressing the systemic barriers that prevent marginalised groups from achieving their full potential. For women, this means breaking down the barriers that prevent them from succeeding in the workplace, accessing education, and participating fully in society.

We believe that addressing these challenges requires a multifaceted approach. We must work to change societal attitudes and beliefs about gender roles and promote the value of diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our lives.

One crucial step towards achieving equity is to empower women to become leaders in their fields. This can be achieved through mentorship programs, leadership training, and providing opportunities for women to network and build connections.

We are committed to supporting women in leadership and ensuring that they have the resources and support they need to succeed. We're proud of the inspiring women who hold leadership positions across a number of our teams, including our developer squads and Executive Leadership team.

We also recognise the importance of providing a supportive and inclusive work environment that values and respects all employees. This includes offering flexible working arrangements, providing equal opportunities for career development, and promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion.

This International Women's Day, let us commit to embracing equity and working towards a world where everyone has equal opportunities to succeed, regardless of their gender. Let us recognise and celebrate the achievements of women throughout history and in the present day, and let us continue to work towards a future where everyone can thrive
