Privacy Awareness Week

Privacy Week is held each year in Australia and NZ to promote privacy awareness, inform people of their rights, and help educate agencies about their responsibilities.

Privacy is protected internationally with a range of laws. The privacy principles and rights they set out hold true both for the technology of yesterday, and the technology of tomorrow.

Awareness is essential for safeguarding individual rights, fostering trust in institutions, and promoting a healthy and equitable digital society. It is crucial for many reasons, including:

- Protection of Personal Information

- Maintaining Control

- Preserving Autonomy

- Building Trust

- Preventing Exploitation

- Supporting Democratic Values

- Promoting Innovation

In Australia, Privacy Awareness Week runs from  6-12 May.

Whether for an individual, business or Government, there is information on:

  1. Privacy news and insights
  2. Message from the Privacy Commissioner
  3. Events
  4. Sign up & resources

In New Zealand, Privacy Week runs from 13-17 May.

There are a host of events and free collateral, each of which will be recorded and available on a dedicated YouTube channel. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner marks Privacy Week each year to promote privacy awareness, inform people of their rights under the Privacy Act, and help educate agencies about their responsibilities.
