Protecting New Zealanders From Scam Messages

Modica Group is proud to play a leading role in protecting New Zealanders from scam messages

At Modica Group, we are proud to be at the forefront of collaborative efforts to combat spam and scam messages across New Zealand.

In 2024, we partnered with the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA), 2degrees, One NZ, Spark, and Apple to help Kiwis report suspicious messages more easily through their mobile devices. This industry-leading initiative empowers iPhone 14, 15, and 16 users to report spam and scam texts directly by selecting “Report Junk” in their message app, with the message metadata shared instantly with the DIA's investigations team.

What this means for users:
No more copying, pasting, or guessing where to send scam reports. One click. Instant action.

This initiative represents a significant step forward in public-private collaboration to protect New Zealanders from digital harm. By creating a fast and secure feedback loop, telecommunications providers and the government can now identify, block, and remove malicious messages more quickly, reducing their impact before they spread.

Modica Group’s inclusion in the One Click Reporting section of the DIA’s latest Spam Transparency Report further validates our ongoing commitment to secure enterprise messaging and data-driven compliance.

A Shared Commitment to Consumer Safety
This partnership highlights the importance of building trust in the digital ecosystem. With mobile messaging at the core of how organisations communicate, ensuring users feel safe and protected is critical to maintaining trust and engagement.

As this initiative scales to include more Apple devices in 2025, we’re excited to continue supporting technology that enables both transparency and trust.
